Math Murals with Mary Lacy
Saturday Feb 3rd 10am -1pm
Chandler Center For The Arts - Randolph
Get inspired for VATA’s Celebration of Youth Art Month (YAM) with a hands on workshop for teachers that will immerse you in math and art through a project you can share with your students. The theme for The Vermont Art Teachers Association’s (VATA) March YAM activities is “Linked In “ and focuses on how art is linked to and enhances other subjects and human endeavors. We will host a YAM exhibit at the Vermont State House in March open to all Vermont Art Students.
This workshop will be led by Vermont mural artist Mary Lacy, who just completed a series of community mural projects across the US. Mary has also worked in Vermont Schools leading students and teachers in art mural projects that discussed proportion, fractions, measurement, multiplication, and the xy coordinate plane. In our workshop teachers will complete a large-scale butterfly based off a smaller image using those principals. Those images could be grouped together to create a composite “Flight of Butterflies” or another group of animal mural in your school. The workshop content can be adapted for upper elementary through high school classes.
The workshop is free for VATA members and $20 for non -member art educators or other interested educators. Space is limited sign up with a message to firstname.lastname@example.org.
