Monthly Member Highlight: Linda Whelihan
"Both organizations (NAEA & VATA) provide opportunities to connect with and learn from other art educators! That can be through monthly VATA meetings with Vermont's creative, fun and inspiring board (join us!), NAEA's informative webinars or the regional and national conferences.
This past weekend, I represented Vermont at NAEA's Team East conference in Philadelphia. Team East consists of VT, NH, ME, Canada, NY, NJ, PA, RI, MD, MA, DC and areas outside the US. Art educators and members meet in one of those locations every other year alternating with a national summer leadership conference. There is official business to be conducted where you can add your voice to discussions going on at the national level, and the hosting locale plans an art-filled schedule that is inspiring and fun.
Shout out to all teachers who participate in YAM! VT's YAM display at the National Conference is considered a standard bearer!
Here are some of the cool things we did over the weekend.
Task party- great way to start the year off in your classroom or for a fun community event.
We took a trolley tour to learn more about Philly's vibrant public art scene and the Mural Arts Project. Their website will give you information about their powerful work with young people, at-risk communities, and artists.
The summer has just begun and I'm feeling energized and ready to make some art! I wish you all many days of creative time just for you!
Get in touch if you're in Brattleboro! and if you have specific ideas about professional development opportunities that you'd like to attend, let me know and I'll look into possibilities of having a workshop at BMAC.
Have a sunshiney summer!
